Where to stay in Ayutthaya. Accommodation in Ayutthaya
Ayutthaya, previous capital of the Kingdom of Siam, is a popular tourist destination. Sadly, it is often treated only as a one- or two-days trip from Bangkok. However, to appreciate its beauty, we recommend you spending there more time. Most of the major sights are on the “island”, therefore if you are looking for accommodation you should look for some places there. Still don’t be mistaken, the island is not small.
If you like discovering new destinations by foot, this is not the best option in Ayutthaya, as the city is not necessary pedestrian friendly. There are bad or no pavements on the streets and there is lots of traffic. We really didn’t feel safe walking there. In many accommodations you can rent bikes for free and do sightseeing this way. That was our plan at the begging but seeing the traffic and kid seats that were not what in Europe you would call safe, we decided to use tuk-tuks. At the end it was the best way, coz I can imagine driving bike with kids in such heat and heavy traffic. Tuk-tuks on the other hand were not expensive and driving with them through the city and beautiful ruins of temples in an unforgettable experience.
However, Ayutthaya is far more than just a city with many old temple ruins (more about what to do in Ayutthaya we are going to write you in next articles). At the beginning we planned to spend there only two nights and then go to Lopburi and stay there for one night. However, we were so amazed by Ayutthaya that we decided to prolong out stay and make a half-a-day trip to Lopburi instead. That’s why there are two amazing locations in Ayutthaya we stayed in and highly recommend:
Phuttal Residence
and
Kamalar Palace
